My name is Matthijs Holter. I'm a Norwegian tabletop RPG designer who's been creating games for three decades, and publishing them for two. My most well-known games are Draug (Norwegian only) and Archipelago.
I'm a big fan of indie RPGs; some of my favorite games are Apocalypse World, Prime Time Adventures, Over the Edge, Itras By, Dog eat Dog, Nicotine Girls, The Clay that Woke, Shock and Vandrerne. If I were to play D&D, it would be 4th ed.
I've been away from game design for a while, but was pulled back in in December 2024, when I designed a new Norwegian-language game, Oguleh, using a setting made by my friend Ole Peder (Itras By). The cards in the banner are from Oguleh!
While Oguleh may not ever see print, I have used the GM-less, dramatic, character-focused, card-driven system I developed for several other games - one of which, Roots of Soledad, might be published in 2026. It's a magical-realistic setting, inspired by 100 Years of Solitude, The House of Spirits, Pan's Labyrinth and the Palomar graphic novels.
